As an active person, I was always either playing basketball or doing some other sports activities. During the second year, I got interested in pole fitness as well. Having your place changed without an intent to stay there felt like a holiday that got out of hand. I was looking for an activity that won't make me feel left out by not speaking fluent Spanish but still will be engaging enough for my body.

I went for the most obvious choice of all, which is obviously the gym. I honestly have never been a fan, tried a few times before, but always I found group sports more rewarding and the aura of people around you doing their own thing was a bit stressing me out. I decided to conquer my fear as that was the easiest choice for me in that situation. I didn't have to wait long to start liking some particular aspects and feeling more comfortable. I feel like it's a very vital part of keeping yourself sane. Working on my body let me get the worries out and kept me distracted when I needed to be. I would definitely recommend it to anyone in a new environment. You don't need to talk to people if you don't feel like it, though if you feel more comfortable you can still sign up for the organized sessions. All in all, I am really enjoying it, but still I can't wait to go back to basketball and pole fitness as soon as I am back in Coventry.
